Other Employee Benefits

Transportation/Section 132 Plan

This allows employers to offer employees the opportunity to use part of their salary to fund transportation/commuting expenses and not be taxed on such earnings

Flexible Spending Account (FSA)

This is a savings account in which an employee can set aside part of their income towards health care costs and not be taxed on such earnings.

Drug/Alcohol/Emotional Assistance

Unhealthy employees and medical claims can cost employers a fortune, whether physical, mental or behavioral. As a result, many PEOs offer a wide variety of healthcare and dependency assistance in order to avoid potentially costly situations in the workplace.

  • - Employee Assistance Program (EAP): Typically offered with a health insurance plan, this benefit program helps employees manage personal problems that could affect their work performance and well-being. Services include evaluation, counseling and referral provision.
  • - Health Advocate Services: Some PEOs can offer Health Advocacy as a service to employees. Health advocacy services include directing patients to the best doctors and treatments, encouraging healthy behaviors, and assisting with billing and insurance coverage issues. By avoiding expensive medical claims, many employers have begun to save money by offering this service to their employees.
  • - Health & Wellness Programs: Employee wellness programs provide a variety of tools and resources for employees to help identify and lessen emotional, mental and physical health. Companies are able to be proactive in overseeing their employees’ health and well-being.

College Savings/Section 529 Assistance

A 529 Plan is an education savings plan offered by a PEO and designed to help families set aside funds for future college costs. 529 Plans can be done through either a Savings Plan, which would work much like a 401(k), or a Prepaid Plan which allows the employee to pre-pay all or part of the costs of college education. This can be done for attendance at in-state public colleges as well as out-of-state and private colleges.

Tuition Reimbursement & Assistance

Some PEOs offer college tuition and credential costs reimbursement for employees who are currently in college or pursuing a graduate degree. The amount of assistance awarded varies depending on the type of plan offered. Some companies will choose to fund tuition based on grades, while others will set aside the same amount of assistance without regard to academic success.

Employee Service/Support Center

Most PEOs offer employees an online or phone-based service/support center through which employees can find answers to their questions about benefits, speak with certified HR professionals, and be consulted on decisions regarding the various benefits and services offered them.
